In this unique "Women Thrive in STEM" event, our expert panelists will share their valuable insights on how to build a good foundation in high school, so that you can break free the "glass ceiling" that prevents women from achieving their full potential in the STEM fields, and how to creactively charter your own path and thrive in career in Acedemia, Instrustry, and Information Technology.

Ms. Maria Pollard is an Research fellow at Dow Inc., the biggest material science company in the US.  During 35 years of stellar career as a process development scientist, she has has won numerous internal and external R&D awards. She is also a distinguished Toastmaster, and is passionate about mentoring young people.


Ms. Lei Fang is a software development leader at Google.  Her 10 years of experience at Google has been focused on developing Android infrastructure and services. She also had 5+ years of experience as a software engineer at Microsoft.


Dr. Beatriz Luna is a developmental neuroscientist known for conducting neuroimaging research on the development of cognitive control, reward, and reinforcement learning from early childhood to adolescence. She is the Staunton Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, and Professor of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, and the founder and director of the Laboratory of Neurocognitive Development at Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic (WPIC).

Sage Wang is a sophomore at Clements High School. She is the co-founder and President of Content Development of Kid Teach Kid. Sage was a 4x Gold Key Winner for the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition; an AIME qualifer, and USACO Silver medalist.  Outside of school. She enjoys playing the cello, and music composition.


Tina Li is a junior at Clements High School. She is a 5 time AIME qualifier and a 3 time USAJMO qualifier. She enjoys studying mathematics in her own time, and she’s excited to teach again for Kid Teach Kid again this summer. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends or watching movies.


Yiming is a rising sophomore in the 2023-2024 school year at Seven Lakes High School. She is a forensics enthusiast who has won numerous medals in Science Olympiad including placing 5th nationally in crime busters. Other than forensics, she also likes to learn about biology and chemistry. In her free time she likes to watch cooking shows and play oboe/alto saxophone..

2023 Free Academic Enrichment Classes Details 

Chemistry

This course will cover an introduction to chemistry. This can be applied to school, competitions, and offers a base to learn more about chemistry.

Instructor: Yiming Zhu

Yiming is a rising sophomore in the 2023-2024 school year at Seven Lakes High School. Biology

In this course, students will learn the principles of biology and basic concepts which can be found in PreAP or AP Biology. Students will first learn about cell structure, followed by an in-depth look at genetics, and concluded with an overview of evolution.

Instructor: Bill Sun

Bill Sun is a sophomore attending Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. He is a USABO National Finalist, AIME qualifier, and 2-time AllState Symphony member. He is passionate about biology, especially in multidisciplinary studies utilizing many fields of science.

Physics

AP Physics 1- This class is meant to help students prepare to take AP Physics 1 next year by teaching key skills and concepts to better understand the course. Instructor: Alexander Jun

Alexander is a rising senior at Clements High School. He's studied contest math for several years now and is a 4x AIME qualifier and a USAJMO HM. Aside from math, Alex has studied physics and computer science and He's also competed in Science Bowl for several years and has tutored several times. In his free time, Alex plays video games and spends time with his cat.

AMC10

In this class, we will cover AMC 10 level problems in geometry, number theory, algebra, and combinatorics. We will review problem solving techniques for each subject and the students will practice with a problem set outside of class.

Instructor: Katherine Liu

Katherine is a sophomore at Clements High School. She loves participating in math competitions, and is a USAJMO qualifier and Math Prize for Girls Olympiad medalist. Outside of making new friends in the world of math, she also likes teaching, swimming, art, and writing.

USACO Bronze

In this USACO Bronze course, you will learn how to use C++ to solve entry-level USACO problems. We will start by going over basic language syntax (no prior experience required!) before diving into more USACO-specific topics, including typical problem types & debugging tips. By the end of the course, you will hopefully be ready for this year's December contest!

Instructor: Daniel Zhu

Daniel is a rising 9th grader at the Harker School. Like too many of his colleagues, he is also a math and programming enthusiast; he is currently in USACO Gold and has qualified for AIME twice. In addition to the competition landscape, he has also self-studied (or at least, attempted to) topics such as game dev, web dev, and AI. Aside from STEM, however, he also enjoys basketball and the occasional assemblage of a Gundam.
